A-Level and GCSE exams have been cancelled and the Education Secretary has announced that students will be awarded ‘calculated grades’.
The calculated grades will be based on mock exams and teachers’ assessments. This announcement has been difficult for parents and students as many students have taken mock exams months ago many have studied hard and undertaken tutoring since then to improve grades.
Also, for many students in previous years, the predicted grades differed from those actually achieved in exams. Even if exams were to be conducted at a later date, with fixed admissions deadlines for universities this makes marking the exams near impossible.
It seems at this difficult time there is no good solution to ensure fairness for all students.
