According to the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), pupils will be able to request the mark for their GCSE and A-level coursework from the summer next year, and hence be able to request re-marks should they challenge the grade.
Currently, some students do not receive the mark for their coursework and hence are unable to assess whether they can ask for a re-mark.
This development comes as part of a series of reforms being introduced over the next three years, including:
- Exam boards must ensure schools allow individual students to request marks of their non-exam assessment from 2018
- Exam boards to ensure marked GCSE scripts are available to schools and colleges before their deadline for requesting re-marking from 2020
- Exam boards to provide reasons for a review of marking decisions automatically from 2020
